About Us

So much more than solar

We solve energy challenges for our clients with a uniquely data-driven process.

How: we are a highly-technical, double engineer led firm, that leverages our proprietary smart-grid energy software PowerEnfo to evaluate a coustomer’s unique energy profile and needs.

Then: we engineer the right solar PV, battery and efficiency solution to meet our customer’s needs and exceed their expectations.

Results: When you’re clear on what you need and what Velo can deliver, we’ll be there every step of the way, from initial site assessment, to financing, to installation and monitoring. Our team of NABCEP-certified engineers, project managers and financial experts take care of every aspect of your project. In the end, you’ll get a unique solution for your company’s renewable and energy-efficiency needs. And you’ll have it backed by the best in the business.

Don’t think of us as just another solar company

When Chuck and Mark founded Velo’s parent company, Empower Energy Technology, they initially set up shop selling commercial grade generators, intent on making sure our customers never found themselves without power. Always striving to keep our clients powered up, we quickly saw an opportunity to provide renewable, reliable energy production solutions through solar PV and to monitor their energy in real-time by developing our proprietary PowerEnfo smart grid software.

So we created two separate businesses – Velo Solar and PowerEnfo. This way we could help our customers produce energy, plus monitor and measure not only their energy production, but also their energy consumption.

Today, we’re one of Georgia’s largest solar EPC firms. And we’re proud to play an integral role in the projects and initiatives that move our city, state, and region further into a sustainable reality. Looking at Atlanta’s famous BeltLine path right outside our windows, it’s fitting to reflect on our past. But for us, it’s not only where we come from, but where we’re going.

Leadership Team

Mark Bell, President
Mark Bell

Co-founder of our parent company Empower Energy Technology, electrical engineer, product management specialist, and adventure racer, Mark’s at the front of our peloton, leading with conviction. He’s got 20+ years’ experience, including excelling at such corporate icons as Cox and BellSouth. The high-speed Internet portfolio he created for Cox set a company standard for growth. He served on the board of directors for the Georgia Solar Energy Association and as its chairman for a one-year term that ended in August 2014. He continues with GA Solar as an advisor on its Policy Committee. Mark also serves on the Board of the Georgia Solar Energy Industries Association which is the leading solar policy group in Georgia.

When he’s not immersed in solar, Mark likes to spend as much time on his bike as possible and doesn’t understand why he bugs his wife by never getting rid of a bike when he buys a new one. He’s participated in many a rainy Adventure Race and is always on the lookout for the next great craft beer.

Chuck Clarke, Chief Technology Officer
chuck clarke
Chuck has impressively deep knowledge of how to make energy use efficient, effective and manageable. It’s no wonder, given his 30 years’ experience in devising, managing, and improving energy-delivery systems. He worked with the global engineering giant Bechtel and the U.S. Department of Energy, before expanding his experience with power system design at entrepreneurial partnership. With Mark, Chuck eventually co-founded our parent company Empower Energy Technology in 2007. Since then, he’s grown our reputation for innovation in the changing energy market. And his focus on energy efficiency is as fixed as ever.

Our NABCEP-Certified Solar PV Professional and electrical engineer, Chuck LOVES technical challenges. Give him a problem and enough time and space – in other words, leave the guy alone – and he’ll solve it.

Electrical engineering, bachelor’s degree – Virginia Tech

Sam Saneda, Controller
sam saneda
Somebody’s got to keep us in line. As Controller, Sam does just that. It’s thanks to her that Velo’s finances, office, and quality control are as smooth as butter. When that operates flawlessly, we can serve our clients more effectively. An accomplished manager, Sam brings more than two decades of financial experience to our company – experience that helps her bring things into focus. Throughout her career, she’s boosted productivity through innovative office management, personnel procedures and work flow. And while she’s practiced her craft in a variety of key roles for Bright Byte Consulting; Synavant, Inc.; Kaplan Communications; and Cooperative Bank PLC, she’s perfected them at Velo.

Annual trips across the big pond take Sam and her family back to her roots in Manchester, England. There, she frequents what she has dubbed “the best Indian restaurant worldwide” and roots for Man U (that’s Manchester United … a top English footba—um, soccer team). It’s thanks to her hubby that she considers herself a Buckeye fan as well. Along with their young daughter and dog, they enjoy walking and hiking. She’s found that cardio balances out the cookies; an avid baker, Sam once baked 600 cookies at one time. Perhaps they were for her church, where she’s active in outreach and has served on the board.
